Description: Canal plat map showing a section of the route of the Ohio and Erie Canal through Canal Winchester in Fairfield and Franklin Counties, between stations 1806 and 1923. Bridges, railroads, stations, locks, and other landmarks along the route are also noted. The map was created under the direction of the members of the Canal Commission of the state of Ohio and approved by the Chief Engineer of the Department of Public Works (variously referred to as the Board of Public Works and the Division of Public Works). Description: Several cosmetology students stand on the sidewalk in front of the Ohio State School of Cosmetology, formerly located at 197 South High Street in downtown Columbus, Ohio. The Ohio State School of Cosmetology currently has several locations in Central Ohio, including Canal Winchester, Columbus, and Westerville. Founded in 1958, the Ohio State Barber College teaches students the theory and techniques of professional barbering, including hairstyling, shaving, and facial services. Now known as the Ohio State College of Barber Styling, the school is currently located at 4614 East Broad Street. The High Street Photograph Collection is comprised of over 400 photographs of High Street in Columbus, Ohio, taken in the early 1970s. These photographs were taken primarily at street level and document people and the built environment from the Pontifical College Josephinum on North High Street in Worthington through Clintonville, the University District and Short North, Downtown and South Columbus. The photographs were used in a television photo documentary that aired on WOSU called "High Street." Photographers that were involved in this project were Alfred Clarke, Carol Hibbs Kight, Darrell Muething, Clayton K. Lowe, and Julius Foris, Jr. View on Ohio Memory.

In this photograph, Joe Munroe captures Dr. Saylor as he and a farmer help to dislodge a dairy calf that has become stuck during birth. A neighbor and the farmer use a rope to pull the calf while the veterinarian guides the calf out. Joe Munroe's career began in 1939 at the Cranbrook Academy of Art. He served in the Air Force during World War II and then joined Cincinnati-based Farm Quarterly magazine. Though raised in Detroit, agriculture became an important subject of Joe's photographs.
